Ok, here’s a little ditty I drew for a uni project. It’s a little 6 page “extra adventure” comic.

The project we where given was entitled “Sense of Belonging” and was a massive pile of wank. Apparently they called this project our “thinking piece” So I decided to draw something that required as little thought as possible. Parts of the artwork are rushed, I started this months ago – left it for a while – then came to finish it a week ago. So the art work is kind of all over the place as I tried to develop as much as I could over those weeks in between. Some of the art is patchy because it was rushed and I had to ink over old pencils here and there. Also, for parts of this i was very drunk (Alcohol being the only motivation powerful enough to bring me to finish it)

Last night I was going to work on something IMPORTANT. So important that I needed to warm up first. This was my warm up. …As you can see it turned into somehitng more than a warm up sketch and took all night to complete, but it had to be done! This is a referance to THIS PAGE of my comic and depicts what happens to justine whenever she changes her body, for among other things, disguise purposes (by re-arranging the atoms that the is built from) – (yes that’s something a robot arm from the future can do). Also some sexual reasons, but hey, we’re all human! Unless you’re a cartoon… comic characters have drives aswell.

If people like this, Imma gonna screen print it and sell ‘um! Maybe I’ll be proud to sell something at a reasonable price for once. Muh.

Main soundtrack to this? Hot Chip – One life stand. Very loudly through headphones.

- Justine Tyme having her atoms blown apart! -
8hrs Linework in ‘Paint tool Sai’ and colours in Photoshop using a Wacom Cintiq

Now I’m off to catch a train home to make sure there’s “No more Cash for Bill” and to take a Tinker in electoral office. Oh Stone, I love you. I get a legitimate day off Uni for it! FIVE DAY WEEKEND!!!

HI! oh god, you’ll never guess where I’ve been all this time. Turns out my university was actaully a Nazi death camp! They strapped us down in there, starved us of inspiration! They said they wouldn’t let any of us out until we submitted and completly changed our own art styles! I don’t know how I escaped. But I did. Well, I really won’t have escaped for another year yet, but that’s stretching the analogy a bit far…

As you may have noticed, it’s been a while since Justine graced the pages of this website. Why? Well imagine if you will, the action of beating a dead horse. Now, you’re beating away at this horse when suddenly you realise you just keep beating it the same way, you’ve been whacking away repetitively with no creativity – You’re doing some pretty boring whacking. So you decide to take a breather and think up some better ways of whacking this dead horse. Which is what I’ve been doing! I’ve been practising whacking off so hard!!

I also had to face facts. I was whacking dead horses whilst stuck in a Nazi death camp. They didn’t approve of me whacking my own dead horse, I had to whack theirs instead! meaning my horse was un-whackable for a while. …Alright, I’ll stop with the horse thing. Really I just haven’t had the time to work on Justine pages whilst having to work on uni projects, among other things. The worst thing is, while I’ve been on hiatus someone else has jumped in and started a time travel webcomic. I mean, the cheek of it! Stealing a totally original idea like time travel, involving robotic instruments… I mean… Ugh…

In other news; remember that game TEAM FORTRESS 2? I stopped playing! Some said playing 21 hours a day was too much. Some; meaning everyone. Including me. So I stopped. Although some good DID come from playing that game (And it’s still a glorious game that you should all dedicate your souls to), That good being the various artworks I produced whilst being smitten by it. Mainly mods. TF2 is a very “moddable” game, meaning it’s very easy to change the game to suit you.

If you really wanted, you could replace every character, weapon, voice clip and map in the game with your own. I stuck to the basics and produced a few hats and weapons. Another good thing about Valve (The company behind the game) is that they have decided to setup a site where players can send in their mods, with a view to get them put into the game for real and for true! To date they’ve released one pack of community content with confirmation of another pack on it’s way. My mods didn’t make it into the first pack, but god am I going to try my hardest to make something good enough for the second one!

Anyway, the school year is coming to a close and summer will soon be here, meaning no uni projects and some time alone with Justine. next year I’m planning for one of my projects to be a Justine comic, so that’s nice, isn’t it? yes. it is. Now shush and look at more Images…

ALSO: if you hadn’t noticed, I redesigned the website. Looks sexy, yes?

Just a few more sketches practicing my hands in drawing the TF2 characters. Still not there, but getting there. The one I’ve spent more time on, and have more fun drawing, is defiantly the scout; followed by the sniper (my favorite character). The Demoman seems to come the easiest, I love drawing his huge chin! I absolutely hate drawing the heavy though, I don’t know why. I just can’t give him life. The one sketch of him here is the best I’ve done :/

In other news, I’m working on the last seven pages of issue two, to be posted all at the same time (so the story won’t drag out). Expect those closer to MCM expo on the 24th nov!

If you want to know why I haven’t updated this summer (And why wouldn’t you want to know everything about me? Of course you do, you love me!) Then I would have to point you towards the Game Team Fortress 2. An online class-based ‘Shooter’, very different to the stereotype which has probably just popped into your head, with the most enjoyably well realized characters I’ve seen in any game, film or comic to date.
If you haven’t heard of the game, then I’ve made a playlist of official videos that introduce the characters.

Now did you watch those? Do you feel entertained?? You better bloody do! If you haven’t played it yet, then you obviously don’t have time for fun in your life. (And if you own the ‘Orange Box’ and haven’t, you’re clearly stupid too. It’s on that. It’s a lot better on PC than it is on console).

Like any game or film I love, I pine for a comic version. Like, say, Bioshock comics or Mirrors edge comics. So since I REALLY love this game, I’m itching to see the characters used in a comic. Itching so badly, I thought I would just do it myself.
“The Internet” has already produced many “webcomic-y” snippets using the characters cataloged HERE (most of them are shit and use in game photography), but the only official comic starting the characters came recently with a game update, HERE (scroll down to see the comic), Drawn by ‘Powers’ Michael Avon Oeming, Who has hinted on his site that there is more to come from him.
The exciting thing is that Valve, the company that produces TF2, has announced an Official series of comics are in production. Which is pretty awesome, but much secrecy has surrounded the project and they seem a long way off. So like I said before, instead of waiting, I’m going to make my own.

I want to show the characters during “down time” preparing before missions and recovering afterwards, I didn’t want to cover the battles, because that’s already done with the game, nor did I want to do a comic like the “meet the” videos because, well, they’re already done as videos. Above you can see my attempts at drawing comic versions of the characters. They still aren’t as good as I want them yet though, but they’re getting close. That’s all I’ve got for now, but I’ll have more on here soon. So what do you think? Good idea? Ok renditions of the characters? ‘Lemme know!

OHKAY, I’m “sorry” for not updating in weeks. I’ve just been so “busy”. Well, really I’ve just been trying to have a summer. I will start up again this Wednesday with a new page, and hopefully my absence will be forgiven. I haven’t been totally inactive drawing wise, as you can see above, I’ve been working on a separate Justine story outside of this first online volume.

This new bit of fun was originally a 24 hour comic (a 24 page comic written and drawn in 24 hours). The art was a bit rushed because of the timeframe, but the story was explosive! I liked it so much, I decided to re-draw it. So it’s kind of like a 24 hour comic, but not really. The result is the best B/W work I’ve done yet. The story is the first in a series called “Justine Tyme’s Extra Adventures”, a run of short non-cannon tales based in the Justine universe, with no effect on the main story. You know, like a Simpsons Halloween special. This first punch of extra adventures is entitled “game over”, and sees Justine and pals load into a virtual reality world of video games. When it’s done, I will get the PDF online as a free download. That’s right, you can just download it and read it. For free. Simples.
The print version will also be available at future conventions, see tab to the right >>

Which reminds me, long ago, before “Tards” (my first crappy comic) was even an idea, I drew “Haroldinium Comics” Some artwork from which can be seen above and below. I’m mentioning it because “game over” was the name of one of these comics, where the books characters entered a virtual reality world as well. I’ve always liked this concept. It was also the idea behind a web comic I did, which followed the adventures of two guys that found themselves trapped in a video game world. Maybe I’ll dig up this festering corpse of a plot device again in the future, who knows.
So, to recap: New Justine page this Wednesday and back to normal after that. All new “Justine Tyme’s Extra Adventures: Game Over” as a free PDF, coming soon enough. Peace out, and come back soon!
