If you want to know why I haven’t updated this summer (And why wouldn’t you want to know everything about me? Of course you do, you love me!) Then I would have to point you towards the Game Team Fortress 2. An online class-based ‘Shooter’, very different to the stereotype which has probably just popped into your head, with the most enjoyably well realized characters I’ve seen in any game, film or comic to date.
If you haven’t heard of the game, then I’ve made a playlist of official videos that introduce the characters.
Now did you watch those? Do you feel entertained?? You better bloody do! If you haven’t played it yet, then you obviously don’t have time for fun in your life. (And if you own the ‘Orange Box’ and haven’t, you’re clearly stupid too. It’s on that. It’s a lot better on PC than it is on console).
Like any game or film I love, I pine for a comic version. Like, say, Bioshock comics or Mirrors edge comics. So since I REALLY love this game, I’m itching to see the characters used in a comic. Itching so badly, I thought I would just do it myself.
“The Internet” has already produced many “webcomic-y” snippets using the characters cataloged HERE (most of them are shit and use in game photography), but the only official comic starting the characters came recently with a game update, HERE (scroll down to see the comic), Drawn by ‘Powers’ Michael Avon Oeming, Who has hinted on his site that there is more to come from him.
The exciting thing is that Valve, the company that produces TF2, has announced an Official series of comics are in production. Which is pretty awesome, but much secrecy has surrounded the project and they seem a long way off. So like I said before, instead of waiting, I’m going to make my own.
I want to show the characters during “down time” preparing before missions and recovering afterwards, I didn’t want to cover the battles, because that’s already done with the game, nor did I want to do a comic like the “meet the” videos because, well, they’re already done as videos. Above you can see my attempts at drawing comic versions of the characters. They still aren’t as good as I want them yet though, but they’re getting close. That’s all I’ve got for now, but I’ll have more on here soon. So what do you think? Good idea? Ok renditions of the characters? ‘Lemme know!
